Workshop BR-US-EU

1o. Workshop de Fomento à Colaboração Brasil-EUA-Europa em Pesquisas sobre Redes de Telecomunicação

1st Workshop to Foster Brazil-USA-Europe Research Collaborations on Telecommunication Networks

Campinas, Brazil, 12-13 August 2015

A group of researchers ative in telecommunications and networking research gathered for an informal workshop hosted at Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil, on 12-13 August 2015. The main objectives were to explore areas of potential collaborations among telecommunication researchers with strong ties to Brazil who are active in Europe, the US, and Brazil, and to identify future mechanisms for funding of research projects involving research groups in the three geographical areas.

Participants represented disciplines in electrical engineering, computer networks, and computer science in 12 universities (9 in Brazil, 2 in Europe, 1 in the US). Topics of strong interest among participants included: software defined networks (SDN); virtualisation for wireless networks; the Internet of Things; experimental wireless network research and testbeds; and resource management in wireless communications.

There was strong consensus in support for coordinated calls, such as the existing Horizon 2020 EU-Brazil coordinated calls, and for the expansion of those initiatives currently being discussed between Brazil and the US and between Brazil and Ireland. The latter were the topics of a recent workshop in the US (SwitchON) and a workshop and the signing of a MoU in Ireland (1st Brazil-Ireland Science Week).
